Statement from Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito as we join together in fervent prayer for the repose of the soul of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI:
“We join with the Universal Church in fervent prayer for the repose of the soul of Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI. We likewise give earnest thanks to God for the gift of the Pope Emeritus who generously blessed all the faithful with his holiness, wisdom and apostolic courage in his years of service to the Church as a priest, bishop, and as it’s Chief Shepherd. He leaves a living legacy for all of us.
Our Holy Father, Pope Francis, will preside over the Funeral Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on Thursday, January 5, in St. Peter Square. I ask that prayers be offered at every Mass in all of our parishes on that day. I will also offer a special Mass for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI on January 5 at 12 noon at Cathedral of St. Ignatius Loyola, to which all the faithful are welcome to attend.
May Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI Join all the Saints in God’s kingdom which he served in such an extraordinary manner.”
