American Heart Month
February is American Heart Month. This awareness month
was established by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention
(CDC) to educate the public about heart disease.
Facts from the CDC.gov:
• Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women.
• One person dies every 34 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease.
• In the United States, someone has a heart attack every 40 seconds
• About 1 in 5 heart attacks are silent—the damage is done, but the person is not aware of it.
A healthy Heart Friendly Lifestyle includes:
• Choose Healthy Foods and Drinks. Choose healthy meals and snacks to help prevent heart disease and its complications.
• Keep a Healthy Weight. People that are overweight or are obese have a higher risk for heart
disease.
• Get Regular Physical Activity. …
