Proverbs 10:9 Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but
he who makes his ways crooked will be found out.

It’s Christmas buying season and there are a couple of scams that we should all be aware of. The following was published by the AARP. Please take note. Education is the best prevention.

• Online shopping: Criminals set up professional-looking websites so you will give your financial information when ordering from the site. Make sure that you are on the retailer’s official site when you order. If you are not, you may not get what you ordered, and the criminals will have your financial information. Do not trust deep discounts.

• Gift Card Scam: Criminals are scanning the redemption numbers on gift cards and placing the card back on the rack at the store so it will be bought by you. They will then go to the gift card retailer site enter the redemption number and drain the cash that you loaded on the card. The balance will be zero when your loved one tries to use the card. How do you prevent this? Purchase cards that are near the cashier’s sight at the store or even better purchase them on the retailer’s website. Redeem cards in a timely manner.

• Package scams: criminals send texts that your package delivery is on hold due to an incorrect address, no one home, or insufficient postage. They will place a link for you to go to in order to correct the problem. Do not open the link. If you are concerned, go to the official website of the delivery service.

Just stay alert. Don’t feel rushed into anything. Criminals will try to scare you. Go to AARP.org for more fraud alert details.
Peace,
