The transmission of COVID-19 is extremely high in St. Lucie County and has reached a record number of cases per day at 487 new infections. Three times in the past eight days there have been more than 400 new positive cases.If you are showing symptoms -it is essential that you get tested, and isolate yourself yourself away from others. Symptoms include fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste of smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting and diarrhea. Free testing is available seven days a week at the Gwenda Thompson Trades Career Center, 3855 S. US Hwy 1, Fort Pierce from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday. If you test positive for COVID-19, there is a free Monoclonal Antibody Infusion Treatment Center available at the Havert L. Fenn Center, 2000 Virginia Ave., Fort Pierce, operating 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, treating more than 300 patients per day. No appointments are necessary for either site. Please continue to follow CDC guidelines, including social distancing, proper hand washing, wearing facial coverings in crowds and getting vaccinated. The vaccine provides the best protection against this virus. The chart below shows the number of new cases in orange and the breakthrough cases (cases where people fully vaccinated) in blue. Those who have had the COVID-19 vaccine are less likely to contract the virus. But if they do, they typically have less severe symptoms or require hospitalization.
